Balancing the Scales: IWD 2026
On Friday, 6 March, students and staff representatives of our community gathered as part of the Adelaide International Women’s Day Breakfast, the largest event of its kind in Australia. Following the UN Women Australia theme, ‘Balance the Scales’, the morning focused on the urgent need for a justice system that is fair, inclusive and accessible to all women and girls.
Guests heard from keynote speaker Katherine Bennell-Pegg, the 2026 Australian of the Year and Australia’s first female astronaut. Her journey to the stars serves as a powerful reminder that no ceiling – earthly or otherwise – is unbreakable. Hosted by Senator Penny Wong, the event raised vital funds for UN Women’s global programs. We are all called to carry this momentum forward, continuing to advocate for equity within our College community.

Prayers for our global community
As we navigate this difficult week, our hearts are heavy with the news of escalating conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel. With reports of widespread strikes and the tragic loss of civilian lives, including many young people, we are reminded of our calling to be peacemakers in a broken world.
We invite our College community to join us in prayer for the innocent families and children caught in the crossfire of the conflict, for global leaders as they navigate this volatile crisis and seek paths toward de-escalation and for those in our own community with ties to the Middle East, who are anxious for the safety of loved ones.
‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.’ – Matthew 5:9. In times of uncertainty, we rest in the hope that God is our refuge.

& HEAD OF MIDDLE SCHOOL

Middle School students have been busy engaging with the world beyond the classroom through a variety of immersive experiences. Year 6 students recently spent a wonderful day at the Grange Surf Life Saving Club. While the group was unable to enter the water on the day, students pivoted to land-based activities, including marine life education, sand dune safety and lifeguard rescue techniques. We are grateful to the instructors for their exceptional organisation in providing such an engaging alternative program.
Meanwhile, Year 8s have been challenged through their Hindmarsh Island Camp this week, led by Wilderness Escape. Attending in two groups, students focused on fostering resilience, teamwork and lasting peer connections through kayaking expeditions, surfing and Trangia cooking.
Academic growth remains a key focus as we approach NAPLAN for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, running from Wednesday-Monday, 11-16 March. These tests provide invaluable data to help staff refine teaching strategies and ensure every student continues to progress. We ask that all students are punctual and arrive with their devices and headphones fully charged. Catch-up sessions will be held for absent students until March 23.
We look forward to welcoming families to Parent Teacher Interviews in Week 8 and Week 11. These conversations are a fantastic opportunity to discuss student goals, celebrate achievements and strengthen the partnership between home and school. Swimming Carnivals
Reflecting on the past week, I am so impressed with the level of the energy and sportsmanship displayed across the College. Swimming Carnivals are always a highlight of the calendar, the level of competition and Community spirit at Waterworld across both the Junior and Middle & Senior School Swimming Carnivals was outstanding.
For the Middle & Senior School Swimming Carnival, congratulations to Greenwith for winning for the third year in a row. Well done to every student who got in the pool to earn those valuable points for their community.
Middle & Swimming Swimming Carnival – Friday, 27 February
Events of this scale require a huge amount of coordination. Thank you to Mr. Perry, Mrs. Davis and Mr. Raymond for your meticulous organisation, leadership and organisation. I also thank the Community Coordinators for the tireless support provided to your respective Communities, and to staff and parent volunteers; we could not run these events without you and your contribution is deeply valued by the school.
We are looking forward to our next major carnival, the Middle and Senior Athletics Carnival, which is Wednesday, 25 March, at the Bridgestone Athletics Centre.
Discussing War & Conflict
With the recent escalation of conflict in the Middle East, students may be hearing or seeing distressing updates through the 24-hour news cycle, social media and conversations. Even when events are geographically distant, repeated exposure to images, headlines and commentary can heighten anxiety, particularly for young people whose understanding of the world is still developing. It is important for parents and caregivers to be mindful of overexposure, as constant coverage can amplify fear and uncertainty.
School TV has produced a special report which is available to Pedare families. This report provides practical guidance to help families navigate conversations about war and conflict in a measured, age-appropriate way, while reinforcing hope, empathy and resilience. ASSISTANT HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL – STUDENT LIFE & WELLBEING

On Friday, 20 February, we welcomed almost 400 guests to the inaugural Junior School Grandparents and Special Friends Morning. Guests were first treated to a special video and live song performance in the Chapel, then treasured time with students to share activities. It was wonderful to be able to recognise, celebrate and give thanks for the very special relationships with Grandparents.
On Thursday, 26 February, Community spirit was at the fore as we ventured to Waterworld for the annual Junior School Swimming Carnival. They enjoyed both a program of carnival events and free-play time, smiles were everywhere on a perfect day of weather, competition and fun. Congratulations to the Greenwith Community, who were close winners of the overall points at this event. Thank you to all students and volunteers who gave their all on the day.
Junior School Swimming Carnival – Thursday, 26 February
In recent weeks, we have commenced our Stay & Play events for each year level in the Junior School. We have welcomed parents and students to an after-school gathering of shared food and fun. In the warm sunshine each afternoon, exciting connections are being made and strengthened, and we look forward to welcoming more year level groups in the coming weeks.

Year 2-5 students headed to the coast to enjoy their ‘Surf Days’ hosted by the Grange Surf Lifesaving Club. Students have learned all about beach and coastal safety, whilst putting these skills into practice in a team environment and fun activities.
HEAD OF SENIOR SCHOOL

It has been a vibrant and productive start to the term, with Senior School students engaging in a diverse range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
Last week, we were delighted to welcome many of Senior School families to the SACE Information Night and Medical Sciences Information Night. Our Director of Studies and Pathways (6–12) provided a comprehensive overview of the SACE journey, ensuring families are well-equipped to support their children through these critical final years. Following the curriculum briefing, representatives from Adelaide University and Flinders University offered an insightful introduction to the field of Medical Sciences, highlighting the exciting pathways available to aspiring health professionals.
SACE Information Night and Medical Sciences Information Night – Tuesday, 24 February
Stage 1 Chinese students ventured into the Adelaide city centre for a day of cultural and historical exploration. By investigating the rich history of migration in South Australia and visiting a local restaurant for an authentic meal, students were able to connect their linguistic skills with real-world contexts. These experiences are vital for developing a deep, nuanced understanding of global cultures.
Year 11 and 12 students also made the most of the festival season, heading to Gluttony in Rymill Park. Attending the ‘Twenty Sixteen’ concert at the Adelaide Fringe provided a unique opportunity for students to engage with contemporary performance, directly supporting their studies and fostering an appreciation for Adelaide’s local arts scene.
It is wonderful to see student approaching their secondary education with such curiosity and drive.
FRUITFUL REFLECTION
You are loved. You are held.
Matthew 4:4 reminds that we are to live on every word that comes from God. This is a challenge in a world where many voices demand attention. This Lent, we are invited to the still quiet desert, the place we often try to avoid.
In life, “the desert” might be a season of grief, a career setback, sickness, fear of the future or a quiet battle with mental health.
Just as Jesus strengthened himself on the words of his Heavenly Father during his time in the desert. We are called to do the same. His words of Truth speak louder than our circumstances, “you are loved, you are not alone, you are being held.”
May you find life in His words this Lent season.

2026 Student Residential Address
Do we have your current residential address?
The Australian Government Department of Education requires the College to provide a statement of student residential addresses, in accordance with the Australian Education Regulation 2013 (Cth) (Regulation).
A statement of addresses contains the following information about each student at the school:
– Student residential address (not student names)
– Student level of education (i.e. whether the student is a primary or secondary student)
– Name and residential addresses of Person(s) responsible for each student. In general, the person responsible will be the student’s parent/guardian.

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held for all year levels this term.
Junior School Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on the dates below.
- Thursday, 12 March, 3:30 – 7:30 pm
- Tuesday, 17 March, 3:30 – 7:30 pm
While parents and teachers are encouraged to arrange meetings as needed throughout the year, we ask that all Junior School parents book a formal interview with their child’s class teacher during this period.

Parent / Teacher / Student interviews for Middle and Senior School will take place later this term on the dates below.

Year 10 & 11 Drama Showcase
Year 10 & 11 Drama Showcase will be held on Wednesday, 11 March. Students have poured their dedication to present this collection of monologues and short scenes from contemporary and Shakespearian sources.
This free entry showcase will be held at the Golden Grove Arts Centre at 6:30pm. We look forward to seeing the community support the Year 10 & 11 drama cohorts.
LEARNING HIGHLIGHT
Year 11 & 12 Music Fringe Excursion
Stage 1 and 2 music students headed to Gluttony, Adelaide Fringe on Wednesday, 25 February. The group attended a high-energy performance of ‘Twenty Sixteen,’ an 8-piece all-star band that showcased their professional musicianship.
The show, a live “rockumentary,” celebrated the legendary artists we lost in 2016. Students were treated to soul-stirring renditions of hits by David Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Sharon Jones and many more.
Featuring powerhouse performers like Kylie Auldist (The Bamboos), Jaron Jay and Dusty Lee Stephensen (27 Club). The highlight for many was the opportunity to meet Jaron Jay, the band’s lead singer and guitarist. In a Q&A, students picked his brain about his personal musical journey and the dedication required to master his craft.
Performance is a cornerstone of the music journey here at Pedare. Seeing students so motivated to bring that professional energy back to their own ensembles is exactly why we value these excursions.

Year 11 & 12 Music Fringe Excursion – Wednesday, 25 February
Stage 1 Chinese City Excursion
Last Friday, 26 February, Stage 1 Chinese students travelled into the city, visiting the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Migration Museum, Chinatown and the Central Market. Through this excursion, students explored the history of migration and its impact on both individuals and Australian society as a whole. By walking through Chinatown and sharing a Chinese banquet, students immersed themselves in an authentic language and cultural environment. They thoroughly enjoyed this valuable opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

Stage 1 Chinese City Excursion – Friday, 26 February
Stage 1 SACE Outdoor Education Surfing Excursion
In Week 4, Stage 1 SACE Outdoor Education students traveled to Middleton for a two-day surfing excursion. Despite facing challenging conditions, the students continually pushed their comfort zones. They displayed a high level of resilience throughout the trip, showing great determination until they were finally able to “hang ten.”

Stage 1 SACE Outdoor Education Surfing Excursion – Thursday-Friday, 19-20 February
Year 8 Outdoor Experience Camp
Year 8 students embarked on an unforgettable outdoor adventure this week, with the cohort split across two action-packed, three-day camps.
Overcast skies and blustery winds on day one made for some incredibly tough paddling! However, the weather improved brilliantly as the days rolled on. By the end of the week, conditions were absolutely stunning. The students enjoyed kayaking on water like glass and soaked up amazing sunshine with perfect beach conditions for surfing.
Teachers have been incredibly impressed watching the Year 8s persevere through activities that pushed them well out of their comfort zones. Whether it was the meticulous task of packing their kayaks for an expedition or learning to cook their own meals on camp stoves, the students faced every challenge head-on. They problem-solved their way through the tough moments and made a deeply rewarding experience for everyone involved.
It was fantastic to see the genuine joy on the students’ faces. The campgrounds and beaches echoed with laughter as they conquered team problem-solving games, built highly creative bush shelters, and proudly caught waves in the surf.
All up, it was a wonderfully successful week of learning, bonding and making lifelong memories!

Year 8 Outdoor Experience Camp – Monday-Friday, 2-6 March
2026 German Exchange Participants
This year, we are delighted to welcome four students from Bavaria, Germany, to our College. Kathi, Linn, Paulina and Clara will be attending Pedare for the remainder of the term. They are keen to see some of the famous Australian animals and are already enjoying the warmer weather, especially since it was around -2°C when they left home! As school uniforms are not worn in German schools, wearing our uniforms has been an interesting experience for them. At the end of the year, Sophia C (Year 11), Fena R (Year 11) and Natalie H (Year 11) will head to Germany to experience life in German schools and, hopefully, a white Christmas with everything that goes with it.

National Youth Archery Competition
Savya P (Year 9) will represent South Australia at the National Youth Archery Competition in Launceston, Tasmania, this April. This selection follows a period of incredible dedication at the archery range.
We wish Savya the very best for the upcoming competition and look forward to following this journey on the national stage.
Parents & Friends Association
Pedare Parents & Friends Association Annual General Meeting
The Pedare Parents and Friends Association (P&F) held its Annual General Meeting and first Committee Meeting for the year on Tuesday, 3 March.
The P&F are a dedicated volunteer group, made up of parents, grandparents and friends from all year levels across the College. Our mission is to foster community through “friendraising” and fundraising initiatives that directly benefit Pedare students.
We are delighted to welcome new Committee Members for 2026. It promises to be an exciting year, highlighted by the debut of the P&F 80s Quiz Night. Tickets are currently available via Qkr! So gather your friends and book a table today!

COMMUNITY NEWS
Tea Tree Gully Anglican
Tea Tree Gully Anglican Church is a group of Christians who seek to serve Jesus in everything we do. Whether you are just visiting or looking for a Christian home, we aim to be a loving and supportive family for you.
On Sundays, we meet at the church at 8.30 am, 10.00 am and 6.00 pm. If you want to discover what the bible says Christianity is all about, join one of the numerous weekly bible discussion groups, or want to find out about our Kids Club (R-6) from 3:30-5pm and Youth group (Y7-12) from 7-9pm that both operate on a weekly basis during school terms.

Gully Church (Tea Tree Gully Uniting) – Banksia Markets
Gully Church hosts the ‘local and friendly’ Banksia Markets on the first Saturday of each month from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm at 600 Milne Road, Banksia Park. Stalls inside the hall and in the car park include produce, fresh fruit and vegetables, jewellery, tools, bric-à-brac and lots more.

Golden Grove Uniting Church
Golden Grove Uniting Church, corner of Crouch and One Tree Hill Road, Golden Grove, has a traditional service at 10 am on a Sunday. Also, on the second and fourth Sunday of the month, we have a cafe-style church, a relaxed contemporary worship service at 6 pm in the Church hall.
Café Youth is a fun, interactive program for young people ages 14 and up looking to engage in topics of faith. Café Youth sessions start with a fun 30-minute activity based on the theme for the night, then followed by “Talk Time”, during which the group discusses a topic of faith while enjoying delicious snacks, refreshments and pizza! The cost for each session is $5.
