Mr Josh Willis
With Term 2 drawing to a close, I want to express my gratitude to families for your continued support and collaboration with the College. It has been an incredibly vibrant and busy semester, and I hope the upcoming three-week break offers your family time to rest, connect and recharge.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff. Their hard work and commitment throughout this semester have been exceptional. A school’s strength lies entirely in the people who bring it to life, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such a talented, passionate team guiding students toward their best.
Term 2 Highlight 2026
Semester One Reports will be distributed to families during the first half of the winter break. Please note that students will return to campus to start Term 3 on Tuesday, 21 July.
Prioritising Sleep
Whether it’s a demanding study load, a busy social calendar or the occasional 4:00 AM alarm to catch a World Cup fixture, sleep schedules are constantly being tested. While a groggy morning is tough enough for adults, consistent rest is absolutely vital for a developing adolescent brain.
With academic, extra-curricular and social commitments, many students are pushing bedtimes later and later. At Pedare, we have been using the Healthy Minds Wellbeing Wheel to navigate self-care. Sleep sits squarely within the foundation of this framework under ‘Biological Needs & Bodily Health’. If we neglect sleep, a student’s wellbeing quickly falls out of balance.
According to our latest Pedare SchoolTV feature, a lack of quality rest directly hinders three critical areas of student life:
Psychological (Learning & Memory): Reduces attention spans, hinders memory retention, and impacts academic performance.
Psychosocial (Emotional Resilience): Decreases the ability to manage daily stress, increases irritability and makes navigating relationships a steep uphill battle.
Physiological (Physical Health): Weakens the immune system and lowers the daily energy needed for school and extra-curriculars.
A common trap is trying to “catch up” on lost sleep by sleeping in late over the weekend. This actually disrupts the body clock further. Consistency, rather than a weekend binge-sleep, is the real key.
As we head into school holidays, maintaining consistent sleep routines becomes even more critical. While the break is a time to unwind, keeping a structured routine ensures students don’t lose momentum. This is particularly important for Year 12 students, who need to balance rest with steady study habits over the break so they can hit the ground running next term.

One of Pedare’s Guiding Principles for Learning is ‘Connect’. We believe that learning is strengthened when students work alongside others, contribute their ideas, listen to different perspectives and build positive relationships. Students are regularly challenged to connect, developing skills that will serve them well within and beyond the classroom. This principle is evident in many aspects of College life, from the teamwork and mentorship fostered through our Junior Musical, to classroom experiences where students learn through collaboration, reflection and the sharing of ideas.
Musical Rehearsal – Thursday, 18 June
We have recently celebrated success in the Mathematical Association of South Australia (MASA) Competition. Earlier this term, 62 Pedare students participated in the competition, with several students achieving exceptional results. Congratulations to Sarah Y (Year 6) who placed 1st in the Primary Division, Evan L (Year 6) who received a Distinction in the Primary Division, Fiona L (Year 7) who achieved a Distinction in the Junior Division and Yicheng L (Year 8) who placed 6th with a High Distinction. These achievements reflect both significant mathematical ability and a strong commitment to learning. We congratulate these students and all who embraced the challenge of participating.
On Friday, 19 June, Stage 2 Drama students presented Kodachrome at the Golden Grove Recreation and Arts Centre. The creativity, dedication and collaboration among the class was exceptional. Congratulations to all involved in bringing this performance to life.
Student reports will soon be available to families. Reports provide an opportunity to celebrate achievement and reflect on progress. Academic results provide an indication of the knowledge and skills students have developed throughout the semester. However, the most important aspect of a student’s report is the effort they have invested in their learning. We encourage students and families to celebrate persistence, engagement, responsibility and commitment demonstrated throughout the semester. These learning habits underpin success across all learning areas and provide a strong foundation for future growth.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support throughout the semester. We wish all families a safe and refreshing break and look forward to welcoming students back for Term 3.
Mrs Lisa Lacy
As we finish these last few weeks, we reflect on many eagerly anticipated experiences and wonderful accomplishments.
Year 4 cohort ventured to Mylor for their first off-campus Camp experience, shining in their conduct, teamwork skills and resilience in the face of unfamiliar challenges. Offsite, Year 5s headed to Cleland Wildlife Park to learn more about animal adaptations first-hand. Finally, Reception students enjoyed a visit to the Road Safety Centre to discover more about Communities.
Last week, we donned a ‘touch of green’ for Casual Clothes Day in support of World Environment Day and the Australian Conservation Foundation. We also celebrated a variety of student achievements at the SHINE Awards Assembly, recognising amazing efforts in the classroom, reading, sports and service endeavours. Congratulations to the Petworth Community for winning the SHINE Points Trophy for the term!
Junior School SHINE Awards Assembly – Friday, 19 June
As we reflect on the first semester, I continue to marvel at how our students are living out this year’s theme, ‘Called to Contribute’, through the many acts of contribution we see all around the Junior School. We have urged all students to consider giving or doing something that helps achieve a larger goal. We can do this by asking ourselves: How can I help? What can I do for others that will help? At Assembly, I highlighted a range of student acts of giving and doing. From proactive rubbish collection in the yard, ideas for school improvement projects, donations of pantry items towards our parish churches and the Lions Club student group making gift items for our community. How fortunate we are, and we are so grateful to families for your encouragement and support of these students’ achievements too.
As we head into the term break, we wish you all a time of rest and refreshment in some differently paced days. If the World Cup is your game, enjoy the remainder of this special event, students certainly did during this very special lunchtime offering in the gym today! Happy Holidays!
World Cup Lunchtime – Friday, 26 June
Ms Simara Conroy
In keeping with this year’s theme, ‘Called to Contribute’, we were thrilled to see two eager Year 8 students, Jessica P and Katrina C, demonstrate incredible initiative and leadership by championing World Environment Day for the College.
They pitched a plan to school leaders and student captains to create environmental awareness. Their vision quickly came to life, with the students coordinating a College-wide Casual Clothes Day themed ‘A Touch of Green’, and a creative art competition for students to share their own connection to nature.
Their efforts highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability, and they served as excellent role models on how student agency can drive positive change in the life of the College.
Casual Clothes Day – Friday, 12 June
During Week 8, Year 7 students and staff faced the heavy rain and cold weather, which impacted the scheduled camp experience at Woodhouse. The program was adapted to ensure students could still enjoy a variety of engaging activities. It was amazing to see how students navigated these changes with incredible positivity, teamwork and a sense of adventure that defined the week.
Congratulations to all of the Year 7 Music classes who competed in Battle of the Bands, with a special mention to our winners, ‘The Ripple Effect’, who sang Riptide by Vance Joy.
Year 7 Battle of the Bands – Monday, 22 June
As we head towards the end of the semester, we wish all Middle School students a productive, enjoyable and well-earned rest over the term break!
HEAD OF SENIOR SCHOOLMr Joel Cockerill
It has been a busy and rewarding conclusion to the term at Pedare, highlighted by the brilliant achievements and dedication of Senior School students.
Year 11 students recently participated in a Leadership Lunch. The cohort had the valuable opportunity to hear from current Pedare staff and old scholars, who shared their personal journeys and insights into the diverse leadership roles available at the College. Inspired students formally nominated for 2027 leadership positions. This selection process will continue into next term, and we look forward to announcing student leaders then.
Year 11 Leadership Lunch – Wednesday, 10 June
Stage 2 Drama students took to the stage last week to present their highly anticipated performance of Kodachrome. Congratulations to all the students involved for delivering such a compelling and professional production, your hard work truly shone through.
Finally, Year 10 and 11 students focused their efforts to their mid-year examinations. The students are to be commended for the mature and focused manner in which they approached this rigorous assessment period.
We wish all families a safe, restful and rejuvenating winter break!
This term, we explored the powerful truth found in Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever” – “God never changes”. We have focused on finding stability in Him, no matter what uncertainties life throws our way.
Recently, the Student Worship Band led with the powerful anthem, “Firm Foundation” by Cody Carnes. As the lyrics remind us, when the rain comes and the wind blows, we are safe because our foundation is built on Him. We aren’t held by our own strength, but by His.
Because God has been faithful through generations, we can trust that building our lives on Jesus will grant us supernatural peace and joy, even in the midst of chaos.

Thank you to the College community for coming along to support the students in their final curtain call.
Stae 2 Drama Performance – Friday, 19 June
Year 9 students have been focusing on Biomes & Food Security as part of their Humanities unit. They’ve been studying the different types of biomes around the world, the food grown in these biomes and how climate impacts food production. Students were lucky enough to hear from Emily Shipway, owner of Lenswood Pick Your Own (an apple orchard in the Adelaide Hills). She discussed with students the intricate process of producing apples, and the realities for farmers around sustainable practices.
To reinforce their learning, students undertook fieldwork on Pedare grounds. They completed a field sketch, an analysis of our sustainability (scoring on a scale from +2 to -2), noted weather conditions and completed a soil test in the vegetable garden. All of this data has aided students in their summative reports, helping them to recognise ways in which South Australia can have greater food security. Thank you to Emily for her wonderful presentation, and Year 9 teachers who helped with the presentation and fieldwork.
Mrs Ebony Muller
Year 9 Humanities Lenswood Incursion – Tuesday, 4 June
Year 9 students headed to Morialta Conservation Park for a day centred around connection, fitness and camp preparation. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the park was at its absolute best.
Linking directly to the Health & Physical Education curriculum, the day kicked off with a focus on outdoor fitness. Students took a picturesque walk up the valley to the waterfall, spotting abundant birdlife and even a koala on the way.
A highlight of the excursion was a visit from a National Parks and Wildlife SA Ranger, who spoke to students about the vital importance of conservation and preserving natural environments. They also discussed the powerful benefits spending time outdoors has on our mental health and wellbeing.
With the upcoming school camp fast approaching, students participated in a practical camp preparation session, learning the fine art of how to correctly pack a rucksack to ensure they are ready for their upcoming overnight hike.
Students learned to slow down by spending time sitting in solo silence, journaling and tuning into the natural sounds of the park.
They thoroughly enjoyed exploring the creek and letting their inner child out in the nature playspace and playground. The day wrapped up with a series of team-building games that tested their collaboration skills and resulted in a lot of shared laughter.
Thank you to all the staff and students who made the day such a resounding success. Year 9s represented the school beautifully and are now well and truly ready to tackle camp!
Mrs Bronwyn Dutch
Year 9 Morialta Conservation Park Excursion – Thursday, 25 June
Year 7 students enjoyed a fantastic week of outdoor adventure and challenge at Woodhouse Adventure Park last week, with the cohort split across two action-packed, three-day experiences.
The inclement weather caused a change of plans, students demonstrated fantastic adaptability as they enjoyed activities such as mountain biking, billy cart making, rock climbing, the giant swing and zipline, along with visits to Melba’s Chocolates and the beautiful Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens.
The first group of students may have come home slightly early, but students were fortunate enough to finish on a high with an exciting day of team building activities and games at school. Students visiting Woodhouse in the second half of the week were lucky enough to experience Challenge Hill and the Labyrinth on their last day.
Throughout the week, students displayed excellent teamwork, enthusiasm and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones. While the format of the camp looked different than planned, the experiences, friendships and memories created made it a highly successful Year 7 camp.
Thank you to the fantastic staff who demonstrated excellent care for students over the week.
Mrs Bronwyn Dutch
Year 7 Camp – Monday-Friday, 15-19 June
Year 5 students took their classroom learning into the field with an excursion to Cleland Wildlife Park on Tuesday, 9 June. This immersive experience allowed them to apply their knowledge of animal adaptations directly to the real world, observing how South Australian wildlife has evolved to survive and thrive. Hand-feeding the kangaroos, potoroos and wallabies provided a spectacular highlight, perfectly connecting scientific theory with a memorable, hands-on encounter.
Mr Mark Allen
Year 5 Cleland Wildlife Park Excursion – Tuesday, 9 June
Year 4 students embarked on a highly successful two-day camp at Mylor Adventure Camp in the beautiful Adelaide Hills from Tuesday, 9 June to Wednesday, 10 June.
All 56 students attended and brought an incredible amount of positivity and enthusiasm to the entire experience. Over the two days, the students challenged themselves and cheered each other on as they rotated through a fantastic lineup of outdoor activities, including the thrilling Flying Fox, the Low Ropes course, a giant Scavenger Hunt and the Bouldering wall.
Sleeping in the dorms with friends was a major highlight, though we’re pretty sure more talking happened than actual sleeping!
A massive thank you to our wonderful staff and the Mylor team for making this experience so safe and special. It was a fantastic week of growth, teamwork and resilience for the Year 4 cohort.
Mrs Bronwyn Dutch

Ava C - Year 4 camp was very fun, we did four different activities including scavenger hunt, flying fox, low ropes and bouldering. I was in a group with Mrs Davis and my friends, our favourite activity was the flying fox.
Eknoor M - I liked the zipline because when I fell down I was all muddy. The zipline was the best. Camp was just so relaxing, I really wanted to go again!
Armaan S - Year 4 camp was amazing! One of my favourite things about the camp was how they had a camp dog named Razzo.
Stelio T - I loved the Zipline because it was 200m and it went sooooo fast. I also liked the bus because I slept.
Last Friday evening, Year 2 students enjoyed a very special Late Night Experience at school to celebrate the Winter Solstice, staying until 7:30pm for an evening filled with fun, learning and discovery.
The night began with creative lantern-making and hands-on learning in VEX Robotics with Mr Peartree. We then stepped into a mobile planetarium, where we journeyed through space as stars, planets and constellations were projected all around us. After our space adventure, we shared a pizza dinner, followed by delicious cupcakes.
Later in the evening, lanterns lit up the night as we went on a special walk around the school led by Mr Willis. It was lovely to explore familiar spaces with our glowing creations lighting the path. We finished the evening relaxing with a movie in the chapel.
It was a truly memorable night filled with wonder, creativity, teamwork and joy. Huge thank you to everyone who supported and contributed to making this such a special experience.
Miss Emma Nicholson
Year 2 Late Night Experience – Friday, 19 June
Reception students had an exciting excursion to the Police Road Safety Centre and a round of mini golf! As part of the Unit of Inquiry ‘My People and Places’, students explored the idea that “We are all connected within a community”.
At the Road Safety Centre, we learned how rules and responsibilities keep everyone safe. Mini golf gave us a fun chance to practice taking turns, encouraging each other and working as a team.
What an awesome way to discover how communities work together and why everyone has an important role to play!

Statewide Knockout Sports Competition
Students have played a series of Statewide Knockout Sports Competitions across multiple sports in recent weeks, putting in amazing effort and participation.
The Year 7/8 Knockout Basketball team put on a spectacular show at their recent competition, securing a fantastic third-place finish overall. They kicked off with a great win in Game 1. Game 2 was an absolute nail-biter, where the boys unfortunately lost by just 1 point to an opposition buzzer-beater. Showing awesome resilience, they bounced back immediately to claim a tough victory in Game 3 and 4, safely locking in third place.
A massive thanks to Old Scholar Tom S (Class of 2025) for coaching and mentoring the boys. Congratulations to all the players on a brilliant tournament!
The Year 11/12 Knockout Football team travelled to Mallala to play the second round of the Statewide Knockout competition in wet and slippery conditions. Pedare put up a good fight in both games but were jumped early by the opposition. Great effort by all the boys overall.
